Here we go with some suggestions prompted by the post about the two Louises and their mystery stories.
Story
Said to be the first detective story Edgar Allen Poe’s The Murders in the Rue Morgue is told in a straightforward fashion that nevertheless keeps us guessing to the end. There’s no sub-plot apart from the friendship between the narrator and the ‘detective’, August Dupin.
