In the US April is poetry month and it's easy to see why. Poets celebrate the month's burst of growth but their flowers are not always cheerful.
Thanks Noirin. Yes Blake's poem is disturbing. As I say I'll talk about roses in June, sick and healthy!
Wonderful poems - especially grateful for the memory of Eliot's "April is the curellest month ..."
It's put me in a sombre mood, reminding me of this poem by William Blake:
Of Rose, thou art sick,
The invisible worm
that flies in the night,
In the howling wind:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
doth thy life destroy.
Sorry to dampen your good cheer!
And there I was thinking that April was a cheerful month with lots of new flowers springing ino life...
