Another wonderful and thought-provoking piece - and so much to explore further as always! Thank you for expanding your readers' horizons so magnificently since the launch of your fabulous blog. Can't wait to see what ideas you come up with in the new year - I wouldn't presume to suggest any, I'm afraid!
Lovely quote from Dylan Thomas, I had not seen that before. Also, fascinating to see the weaving together of Dante and TS Eliot, two of my favorites... happy winter solstice!
It's a fascinating connection isn't it? Winterson also quoted Eliot describing the writing of the poem. He had recently converted to Anglicanism. On coming home from Sunday service he sat down with a half-bottle of gin and began to write the poem. By lunchtime both were finished!
Thank you!
Wonderful reading
Thank you! I hope What's the Story? continues to please you over the coming year.

Thanks for this, Aisling. Likewise the Lancelot Andrewes source was news to me. It sent me back to the poem for the first time in years.
Thought provoking. Thank you.
Love it!
