I love that story Noirin! Can't believe the doctor going around dishing out valium to you all! It's a wonder you didn't all want to stay a few more nights!
I had the most comfortable sleep of my life on that trolley - because one of the doctors came round to everyone (there were dozens of us) and gave us all a shot of vallium! All I remember was the most heavenly few seconds of my life and then the deepest sleep.
Yes I was drawing on my memories of that sharp winter. I love the coincidence of your walk home from the hospital. Although I imagine the trolleys weren't very comfortable quarters for the preceding nights. Little did we know that sleeping on the trolleys would become the norm in A&E as it sadly is now.
Lovely description of that long walk in the snow - this wouldn't be the winter of 1982 would it? I remember everthing coming to a complete standstill, and I also had a quite magical long walk home from Mater Hospital to Kilbarrack on a saturday having bunked down is some spare trolleys in the hospital for the previous nights!

Thanks Noirin! Keep up the prayers!

I'm still praying for them all to be rescued!

Thank you. Long may the winter snows here remain brief!
Lovely writing. Very unseasonal indeed but a lovely picture of the brief Irish winter snows.
